The husband took me out for dinner tonight and I got to pick where. There have been lots of new openings in and around Belfast and so I wanted to check out one of the new kids on the block. I opted for the musical themed Buskers on University Road.
The interior of the restaurant, which used to be the award winning Beatrice Kennedy’s, is quite rustic combining muted greys with dark wood floors and bare brick walls. However the decor is taken to the next level by the super cool wall murals of music icons such as Amy Winehouse and Joe Strummer. The musical theme continued with a cracking play list, which included classics from The Beatles and Johnny Cash’s cover of ‘Personal Jesus’, as well as musical inspired cocktails, my favourite being The Jimi ‘Hendricks’.
The menu had so many tempting options from seafood chowder to beef tacos. For starters I was swayed by the crispy duck salad with hoi sin sauce whilst the husband had spicy chicken wings. The dishes looked fab and tasted even better. For mains I was torn but eventually opted for the wild mushroom tagliatelle with garlic bread and the husband chose the beef burger in a brioche bap with onion rings, cheese and bacon with chips. Again both dishes were delicious and the portion sizes were very generous, so much so we had to say no to dessert.
After a fantastic meal – and thankfully we didn’t have to sing for our supper or we would have gone hungry – we will definitely be back to Buskers. In addition to a tasty meal, the customer service was exceptional and our waitress was so friendly and helpful. Next time we visit though, we are hoping to catch some live music that’s showcased in Buskers, which really would definitely be the perfect accompaniment to this already fabulous experience.
